Dr. Vandermark also provides coaching services for groups and teams, especially related to new team start-ups, team goal setting and role clarification, team conflict management, and work process redesign for groups. He is also an expert in the area of the psychological impact of restructuring and downsizing on human performance and how to re-spirit a radically changed workplace.
His engagement experience has included a comprehensive organizational diagnosis of a major U.S. airline, to include acted-upon recommendations related to redesign of information systems practices, the redevelopment of customer service strategy, the design and implementation of more effective training and development systems and the improvement of the executive team's communication process. He has provided executive coaching, leadership and career development strategies for hundreds of executives including CEOs and all other members of top management teams.
Some of Dr. Vandermark's other engagements have included mission and vision development for Fortune 100 organizations and in the health care industry, the development of individual and group performance plans, succession planning, empowerment tactics, work redesign, self-directed teams, selection and retention programs, and collaborative redesign initiatives.
Prior to the start-up and incorporation of Vandermark & Associates, Inc., Dr. Vandermark served as Vice President and Staff Psychologist for Drake Beam Morin, Inc., the world's largest outplacement and human resources consulting firm. He was responsible for psychological assessment and career consulting, new program design and implementation, staff education and development, and management of DBM's Executive Education Series, a series of adult learning events designed specifically for executives throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area. Prior to working with DBM, Dr. Vandermark served as Corporate Consulting Psychologist for America West Airlines and as an Organization Development practitioner for St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center.
In 1996 Dr. Vandermark published Wall Street & Wildflowers: Choices About Life in Corporate America. In the book he offers over 200 pragmatic suggestions for increasing effectiveness and contribution in the workplace. He is continually called upon to speak about his writings and to inspire and encourage leaders, as well as employees, to integrate business strategy with personal dreams and desires. He is also the author of ERA III Leadership, and, along with Deepak Chopra, MD, Spirituality in the Workplace.
A former U.S. Air Force and airline pilot, Dr. Vandermark received his Master's degree in Human Development and his Doctorate in Human and Organizational Systems from the Fielding Institute in Santa Barbara, California. He went on to become a licensed psychologist in Arizona (license #1708) in 1990 and in Minnesota (license #LP1177) in 1992. He is a member of the faculty of the University of Phoenix where he designs and teaches a variety of online courses in the Doctor of Management program in Organizational Leadership, as well as the Master’s in Business Administration and the Master’s in Organizational Management programs. He is also an online faculty member for the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas and Capella University in Minneapolis.
